LAS CRUCES BIKE GIVEAWAY TO PROVIDE MORE THAN 300 BIKES TO LOCAL CHILDREN
200 Bikes wait for their new owners under Sisbarro's Yellow Tent at the 2010 Las Cruces Holiday Bike Giveaway.
LAS CRUCES, NM: Las Cruces firefighters, police officers, sheriff’s deputies and other public safety officials will present more than 300 children with bicycles on Saturday December 10, 2011, at Sisbarro Buick/GMC.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. under Sisbarro’s yellow tent at 425 West Boutz Road in Las Cruces. Bike recipients are pre-qualified prior to the event.
“Our firefighters and police officers do so much to protect our community and they still find time to make Christmas happen for kids in need,” said Lou Sisbarro, president of the Sisbarro Dealerships. “We’re very proud to host the event and be part of the great work these young men and women do.”
According organizers Steve Alexander and Don Ellis the Bike Giveaway began in Rio Rancho, NM, when police and firefighters saved damaged bicycles set to be destroyed at the city impound lot. 40 bikes were refurbished and given to children for the 2003 holiday season.
The Las Cruces Bike Giveaway was established in 2007 and since then, more than 1,000 bikes have been given to area children. In 2010, the holiday Bike Giveaway found a permanent home at Sisbarro Buick/GMC in Las Cruces.
